Small Group Ministry Makes Stuart Congregational Church a More Caring Place
“ChristCare gives Stuart Congregational Church a step-by-step approach to training small group leaders and organizing a network of highly effective small groups in our congregation,” said Pastor Randy Hase. “ChristCare Groups are gatherings of 5 ‑ 12 people who meet regularly to care for and support one another, study God’s Word together, grow in faith, and find ways to reach out to others with God’s love.”
“In a growing church like ours people can sometimes feel lost. ChristCare Groups provide a means for people to feel connected – with one another, with our church, and with God. This is especially important in today’s society in which many people have lost the closeness, community, and sense of family we had a generation ago,” said Family Minister, Barbara MacMannis.
The ChristCare Series, developed by Stephen Ministries, is a complete system for leading and organizing small group ministry in the congregation. At the training course in St. Louis, the team of Equippers from Stuart Congregational Church received instruction on a variety of topics, including casting a vision for small groups, training ChristCare Group Leaders, forming ChristCare Groups, birthing new groups from existing ones, and providing ongoing support and guidance for group leaders. In addition, Equippers formed ChristCare Groups at the event so they could experience ChristCare firsthand.
“I expected to learn the nuts and bolts of setting up a strong, growing small group ministry, but the wonderful surprise was also having the opportunity to see how God can touch lives – including my own life – through ChristCare”, said Trish Smith. “It was amazing to see the spiritual growth we all experienced throughout the week in the ChristCare Group we formed at the training course. It really gave me a vision for the powerful ministry that can happen through ChristCare Groups in our congregation.”
“Our plan is to start our new ChristCare leadership course in the fall/winter of 2009, said Rev. Hase. For more information on ChristCare Small Group Ministry at Stuart Congregational Church, contact Barbara MacMannis, Family Minister, at 772-287-5951.
